In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, you’ll know by now that Theresa May has called a snap General Election to be held on June 8th. This post is why I’ll be voting Labour and why I think you should too.
If we’re going to be honest, this a two horse race. The Conservative’s are reportedly ahead of the rest of the pack at the polls and the only party with any hope in catching them is Labour. Between Scotland backing the SNP and the north along with other working class areas slowly turning to other smaller parties, Labour has a tough fight ahead of them… This doesn’t mean that it’s impossible.Continue reading
There’s sad news coming out of Cardiff. The Full Moon on Womanby Street has announced they’re closing due to lack of confidence from their creditors. This is the latest blow to hit Womanby Street following the closure of Dempseys and The Moon Club. Alongside this, there have been announcements of both a Wetherspoons hotel and a new residential development planned for the street which puts the rest of the venues under even more threat.
Ah 2016, the coffee stain on the desk that is the 2010’s. It’s certainly been a bit of a weird year! Politics have turned down a road that no-one expected. Not even those leading the way saw this coming! On top of this, there are claims of the year being cursed thanks to a constant stream of big name deaths from all corners of the entertainment industry. 2016 has certainly been a year that many want to be over!Continue reading
So it struck me the other day that even though I’m technically now an adult, I don’t feel like I’m growing up. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve grown up from my teenage years, but I still feel like I’m in my early 20’s even though I’m bordering 30. The Daily Post is Mind the Gap, I felt it would be a good topic to attempt to cover.
After thinking about this for the past few days, I’ve realised there’s a vast difference between growing up and being an adult. When I was younger I used to think being an adult and growing up went hand in hand. You go to school, then college and uni and then get a job. At some point on this journey you find the love of your life, get married and have kids, et voilà – You’re a fully fledged, grown-up adult!
Welcome to Post-Brexit Britain. Please leave your freedom of speech at the door. Your opinion is only welcome if you’re one of the 52%.
Waking up to the news that the Brexit campaign had won on Friday morning was a bit of a shock if I’m honest, as it was to millions of others. However, it was the following reactions on Facebook and other Social Media sites that shocked me even more. As more and more remain campaigners started to share their feelings, it became apparent that freedom of speech was no longer welcome by a lot of users.
The law, as currently constituted, strikes the appropriate balance between managing the noise environment and considering the needs of business.
In short, they’re not willing to help keep small venues and live music alive. Frank Turner (Lead singer of Möngöl Hörde and acoustic folk singer) is not happy with this as he thrives and makes his living from live music. Frank has come up with another solution… To adopt the Agent of Change principle!Continue reading
Anyone that knows me personally will know that I am quite a laid back person and normally very chilled out. It takes a lot to rile me or stress me out, especially to get me to show that at the same time. I’m the sort of person that will normally pack away anything that’s bothering me as, well… It’s normally not that important to take over me. However, things have been different for a little while now. Continue reading
I’ve been inspired to write this post off the back of a shocking anti-tattoos meme that I’ve seen being shared on Facebook recently.
The above meme gives the impression that just because you have tattoos and piercings, that you won’t be able to get a job and you’ll blame it on everyone else. Now don’t get me wrong, this does happen in the real world and people who are part of the ‘alternative’ scene do still get discriminated against in this day and age; however there are a few home truths that need to be set straight about the above picture in particular.Continue reading
Something has come to my attention recently, and it’s something that is starting to get on my nerves…The closure of small licensed live music venues.
I’m not talking about closures that have happened due to financial issues and the like (as sad as these are), I’m talking about closures made due to noise complaints. Noise complaints from ‘neighbours’ who have moved in knowing that they live in the very close vicinity of a live music venue…
